Every meal should have high-quality, nutrient-dense protein from both animal and plant sources.

Healthy fats from whole foods such as eggs, meat, full-fat dairy, seeds, olives, and avocados are recommended.

Americans are encouraged to eat a variety of whole, colorful vegetables and fruit.

Whole grains are also encouraged, but refined carbohydrates are not.
